Exclusive Agreement with TEPDAD

LAMA has signed an exclusive agreement with TEPDAD (Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Medical Education Programs — Turkey), a WFME-certified accrediting agency. Through this partnership, LAMA serves as the official consultant and coordinator for medical school accreditation in Lebanon. TEPDAD is mainly responsible for the accreditation process of Lebanese medical schools. LAMA, as a consultant, is responsible for the interior organization of accreditation, including briefing, site visit coordination, and reviewer honorarium management.

Accreditation Procedure

Standards of Procedures for Accreditation of Medical Schools in Lebanon — defined after the signed agreement between LAMA and TEPDAD.

  • 1. Medical schools that have completed one term (six years) of medical education and have first graduates may apply.
  • 2. Schools wishing to apply must approach LAMA annually. LAMA accordingly informs TEPDAD about the application.
  • 3. Evaluation is conducted according to the Global Standards of WFME for Basic Medical Education.
  • 4. TEPDAD briefs the medical school and consults on preparation of the self-evaluation report.
  • 5. The medical school submits the self-evaluation report to TEPDAD for review.
  • 6. If basic standards are not met, the school is given up to one year to comply.
  • 7. A site visit is scheduled once basic standards are met. TEPDAD proposes three dates.
  • 8. TEPDAD establishes a site-visit team of five members. LAMA assigns one observer and one student from another medical school.
  • 9. The site visit lasts four full days plus an oral feedback report day.
  • 10. TEPDAD issues a final report within three months. Decision: Full Accreditation, Conditional Accreditation, or Does Not Meet Standards.
  • 11. TEPDAD and LAMA announce accredited medical schools on their websites.
  • 12. All procedures follow TEPDAD's Working Regulation.
  • 13. Honorarium fees are paid to reviewers by LAMA.
  • 14. The medical school is responsible for accreditation service fees. Half is due upon signature.
  • 15. The school covers travel and full accommodation for educators.
