Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about LAMA's U.S. Clinical Rotations

Are these rotations hands-on or just observerships?

All LAMA rotations are guaranteed hands-on. You will take patient histories, perform physical exams, write notes, present cases, and perform procedures (IVs, ABGs, suturing, Foley catheters, etc.) under attending supervision. This is confirmed by hundreds of student testimonials. LAMA does not offer pure observerships.

Does LAMA help with the U.S. visa application?

Yes. LAMA provides comprehensive visa assistance including invitation letters from U.S. hospitals, detailed document checklists, mock interview preparation, and guidance on B1/B2 or J-1 visa requirements. Our visa success rate is 98%, and many students receive 5-year multiple-entry U.S. visas.

What is the duration of rotations?

Rotations typically range from 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the specialty and hospital requirements. Most students complete 4-week electives, but extended rotations are available for those seeking more in-depth experience. You can also combine multiple specialties back-to-back.

Will I receive a letter of recommendation?

Yes. Attending physicians at our partner hospitals provide strong, personalized letters of recommendation for residency applications. Many LAMA alumni have successfully matched into competitive U.S. residency programs using these letters. We also provide guidance on how to request and follow up on letters of recommendation.

What is the cost of a rotation?

Pricing varies by specialty, duration, and hospital location. Please contact LAMA directly for a detailed quote based on your specific needs. Scholarships are available for qualified students based on academic ranking and financial need — LAMA offers full medical scholarship coverage to eligible applicants.

Who is eligible to apply?

LAMA rotations are open to Lebanese medical students and graduates. Eligible applicants include current medical students in their clinical years, recent medical graduates, and IMGs looking for U.S. clinical experience. A Good Standing Letter from your university is required.

Does LAMA arrange housing?

Yes. LAMA offers housing coordination services. We arrange safe, affordable accommodation near your hospital — often within walking distance. Many hospitals also offer on-site or affiliated housing specifically for rotating students. Airport pickup guidance and local orientation are included.

What documents do I need to apply?

Required documents include Photo ID, Civil Status Record, Proof of Residence, Good Standing Letter from University (or Medical Diploma if graduated), Copy of Transcript, Letter of Recommendation, and employment or unemployment certificate if applicable. LAMA provides a complete checklist upon application.

How does LAMA follow up during my rotation?

Weekly follow-ups are a hallmark of LAMA's service. Ms. Nazek Nsouli sends weekly emails to every student to check on their adjustment, address concerns, and ensure the rotation meets expectations. If any issue arises, LAMA resolves it promptly.

Is malpractice insurance provided?

Yes. LAMA provides malpractice insurance coverage for all students during their clinical rotations. This is included in your rotation package — you do not need to arrange it separately.

Which hospitals can I rotate at?

LAMA has affiliations with over 27 top-tier teaching hospitals across the United States, including Johns Hopkins Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, Southampton Hospital, Providence Hospital, MetroSouth Medical Center, Norwegian American Hospital, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, and many others.

When can I start my rotation?

Rotations are available year-round. Most students apply three to six months in advance to secure their preferred specialty and hospital. LAMA's process is efficient — many students receive contracts in less than one month after applying.
