OVERVIEW

Accreditation Importance

Accreditation is an objective peer review process designed to attest to the educational quality of new, developing and established medical schools programs. In September 2010, ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) announced that, effective in 2023, physicians applying for ECFMG Certification will be required to graduate from a medical school that has been appropriately accredited.

LAMA Role in Accreditation

All International Medical Schools have come across the challenge of 2023 accreditation due to the lack of resources and proper guidance. The Lebanese American Medical Association (LAMA) stepped in at this critical time for the purpose of serving the Training and Accreditation needs of Lebanese medical schools by signing an agreement with WFME certified Agency (TEPDAD) on one hand and contributing in obtaining an official recognition of WFME along with its agencies by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health on the other hand.
With the tremendous efforts that LAMA put in the accreditation field, now Medical Schools in Lebanon will be properly assisted to meet the WFME standards smoothly and on time.”

LAMA follows globally accepted criteria to facilitate accreditation of medical schools set forth by WFME. This process will allow medical schools accredited by recognized agencies, and their graduates, to meet ECFMG’s accreditation requirement. LAMA assistance in accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process of quality assurance that determines whether the medical school meets established standards or not. This process also incites program improvement.

LAMA’s end goal of the accreditation process is to make sure that medical graduates demonstrate general professional competencies that are appropriate for their professional working years, serving as the foundation for lifelong learning and proficient medical care.
